HARDNESS TESTER

Testing kit provides rapid determination of water hardness. There is no need to carry water samples to the laboratory and wait for the results. Effective way to check if water softener works or not. The hardness content determines by the colorimetric method. Depending on color, will be determined hardness level – blue is soft, red is hard. The kit contains 3 flasks with reagent, graduated flask, indicator and titrant. Testing kit allows determining hardness for about 25 times.

Technical characteristics: The test determines hardness in the mg/l as CaCO₃ by the colorimetric method.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE:

1. Pour 5 ml test water into the test tube.
2. Add 1-2 drops of Indicator reagent to the tube and mix.

• If a blue colour appears, this indicates completely soft water below 1 degree French (0,1mmol/l)
• If a wine red colour appears, the hardness is above 1 degree French (0,1mmol/l), a second (larger) titrant bottle should be used to determine the exact hardness

3. Add the titrant one drop at a time into the test tube, each time swirling the test tube. Count the number of drops until the colour in the test tube changes from red to blue. Each drop corresponds to 1 French degree (0,1mmol/l).

4. For softened water - fill a 10 ml test tube and add 2-4 drops of indicator. Each successive drop of titrant will correspond to 0.5 French degree (0.05 mmol/l) .

!!! Water hardness can also reach 5 mmol/l, --> 50 degrees French --> 50 pellets of titrant
