Water quality problems and solutions

Chlorides are widely distributed in nature as salts of sodium (NaCl), potassium (KCl), and calcium (CaCl2). Elevated levels of chloride in drinking water supplies can interfere with taste, the watering of certain plants and may increase the corrosivity of the water and damage household plumbing.

Method used for reducing chlorides in water is reverse osmosis.
